At the heart of the Darrin Sankey Memorial Foundation is a mission to tackle the stigma, stereotypes, and negativity surrounding drug and alcohol addiction with warmth and compassion. Our approach to breaking down these barriers is simple: we shine a spotlight on the stories of individuals in recovery, showcasing the truth that overcoming addiction is possible and a journey filled with hope and resilience.
We're all about spreading positivity and support for recovery, whether through advocating for better policies or creating welcoming community spaces where healing can take place. We understand the power of language and media in shaping perceptions, so we're passionate about changing how addiction is talked about and portrayed. For example, we believe that renaming federal agencies like NIDA and SAMHSA to remove the word "abuse" is a step towards creating a more understanding and inclusive dialogue around addiction.
Our goal is to make everyone feel welcome and supported on their journey to recovery. By challenging addiction stigma wherever we find it, we help those in treatment and encourage others to seek the support they need. Together, we can create a world where addiction is understood, accepted, and met with compassion at every turn.
